JAYWICK FOR HAPPINESS Community heritage project. 2015
Jaywick Sands, Essex
Jaywick Sands was originally conceived as an upmarket holiday village in the 1920’s where people would drive from London on a Friday evening, enjoying golf, tennis, swimming and possibly dancing and then drive back refreshed and ready for a week’s work. The Jaywick for Happiness project will capture Jaywick Sands in its heyday as a holiday retreat through the photographs, films and memories of its residents and holidaymakers. Turning this private collection of social history into a public resource to promote a positive and aspirational profile for the Jaywick of today.
Launching on Saturday 6 June 2015 at Jaywick Martello Tower and culminating in September 2015 with the launch of a Heritage Trail of Jaywick with links to online content and forming part of the tenth Anniversary celebration of Jaywick Martello Tower being opened as a gallery space and arts venue.
Jaywick for Happiness is a community heritage project led by Arterial Culture CIC made possible with a Heritage Lottery Fund ‘Sharing Heritage’ Grant and funding granted by the Friends of Jaywick Martello Tower.
